Weidenfeller, who was acquitted of a racism charge by the German Football Association (DFB) Disciplinary Committee, stemming from an incident involving Schalke´s Gerald Asamoah during the 18 August Bundesliga match, had accepted this training back in May 2007, months before the Schalke match. "I have been involved in anti-racism actions for years. For me, it is a matter of the heart", emphasizes the athlete who was seen in an incorrect light following the Derby.

Along with Florian Kringe, Weidenfeller supports a Federal Work and Social Services Department initiative called "Schools Without Racism - Schools With Courage." It is a project of and for students who want to act against all forms of discrimination, especially racism. The students also want to contribute to a violence free, democratic society.
