"Totally out of sorts"

[8.02.] The snow has melted away, and Borussiaīs winter fairy tale has taken a break. After their dream start to the year, when they increased the gap to Werder Bremen to eight points with wins over Cologne and HSV, their advantage has been cut to five points after the second defeat on the trot. And next up for BVB is a trip to Bayern on Saturday...

"We know itīs going to be a difficult match," said Patrick Owomoyela and suggested: "Letīs analyse the Frankfurt game and then travel with a clear head and a good attitude to Munich. If we can perform there on a level we are capable of, one we had shown in the weeks before, we can compete there."

Table situation:
BVB lost fourth place to HSV who are level on points (36), but have a far superior goal difference (plus 12). BVB are six points behind third-placed Schalke 04 and five points ahead of Bremen and Frankfurt who are in sixth and seventh spot, respectively.

Game stats:
BVB were the more active team, had 55 percent possession and a tackle success rate of 53 percent. And the Black īnī Yellows also had a 15-12 shots on goal advantage. Nuri Sahin was the player with the most ball contacts (97) on the field.

Comments & background information:
Due to Kubaīs absence, BVB coach Jürgen Klopp, who already had to do without Weidenfeller, Bender, Kehl, Tinga, Feulner und Rangelov, had to reshuffle the team from last weekīs 4-1 defeat to Stuttgart. In the first half BVB were struggling defensively and were lucky to concede only one goal (Köhler, 8 mins.). Klopp saw "great problems" of his team against a "committed, deep defending team that broke brilliantly" and he also criticised his players: "We also were not calm enough when we had the ball."

BVBīs equaliser (Hummels, 17) almost came out of nowhere. In the second half, however, the home side gradually took control of the match and were rewarded for their dominance in the 57th minute when Barrios put them 2-1 up. "In this phase," said Klopp, "we played okay." Frankfurt had to thank their keeper Nikolov to keep them in the match when he made a vital save from Valdez.

In the second half it was Frankfurt who scored out of nowhere: Jungīs long-range effort was deflected by Sahin, giving Ziegler no chance whatsoever (65). "We gave a 2-1 lead away in an inexplicable manner," said Owomoyela - less about the goal and more about their defensive behaviour in general. "After the equaliser we were totally out of sorts. What followed was a plethora of misplaced passes."

BVBīs right back was then involved in the gameīs decisive moment when he failed to prevent a cross and Meier got the ball. "I made a decision I really canīt explain," Owomoyela said self-critically. His verdict on the game: "We shouldnīt have let a match we struggled to get into slip out of our hands." And Jürgen Klopp said: "If you look at the full 90 minutes, Frankfurt picked up a deserved win."
